Photos of Meerkats (Suricata suricatta), a highly social animal, frequently exhibiting altruistic behavior, with a sentry characteristically on guard of the 'mob' or 'gang'. They originate from the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa. Thankfully, they are not currently on the endangered species list. These photos were taken in zoos.
